International Patients

American Patients Are Welcomed at CIREN

Whatever political differences may exist between our nations, Cuba opens its doors to every patient in need. You are not a visitor here. You are our guest, and from the moment you land, we make sure you feel at home.

A Humanitarian Welcome, From the Airport Onward

Our approach is humanitarian, not political. Health knows no borders, and healing knows no nationality. At CIREN, every patient is received with the same dignity, warmth, and commitment to care.

From the moment your plane touches down at José Martí International Airport in Havana, a member of our International Patient Coordination team is there to meet you. We greet you by name, assist with arrival formalities, and accompany you every step of the way to your accommodation and to our clinical campus.

You will never feel like a stranger. Our coordinators, clinicians, and nursing staff are trained to receive patients from every culture and every corner of the world, including the United States. Many of our team members speak English, and dedicated English-speaking coordinators are assigned to American patients throughout their stay.

Whatever the political climate between governments, the people of Cuba and the physicians of CIREN welcome you as a fellow human being seeking restoration. That is who we are, and that is how you will be treated.

Visa & Travel for U.S. Citizens

U.S. citizens travel to Cuba under a general license category for medical treatment. Our coordination desk provides a letter of invitation and treatment confirmation to support your travel authorization.

  • Required Documents

A valid U.S. passport (valid for at least 6 months), travel insurance, and your CIREN medical confirmation letter. We provide a complete checklist before you travel.

Comfortable, private residences near the CIREN campus are arranged for you and your accompanying companion. Rooms include climate control, private bathrooms, and daily housekeeping.

  • Freedom of Worship

Your faith is respected here. Patients of all religions are welcome, and space for prayer or quiet reflection is always available. We accommodate fasting, prayer schedules, and religious practices wherever clinically safe.

  • Dietary Observance

Halal, kosher, vegetarian, and other religious or cultural dietary requirements are honored by our kitchen team. Tell us your needs and we will meet them.

  • Cultural Sensitivity

Our staff is trained to receive patients from diverse cultural backgrounds with respect. Your customs, language, and personal boundaries are honored throughout your care.

  • Chaplaincy Support

Upon request, we can arrange contact with local religious communities or a spiritual companion during your stay in Havana.

Payment & Insurance for U.S. Patients

You receive a written treatment plan with a clear, all-inclusive cost estimate before you travel. There are no hidden fees.

  • Payment Methods

International wire transfer and accepted card networks are available. Our coordinators explain every option in plain language.

While most U.S. insurers do not directly cover treatment abroad, we provide detailed medical invoices and reports you may submit for reimbursement or for a health-share program.

You Are Safe, Respected, and Cared For

CIREN has welcomed patients from more than 100 countries over three decades. American patients are received with the same warmth and clinical excellence as every patient who walks through our doors. Politics never enters our examination rooms. Only compassion and medicine do.
