NeuralCIM® (NeuroEPO-plus)
A neuroprotective medication developed in Cuba for the supportive treatment of neurodegenerative diseases.
Scientific Background
NeuralCIM® is based on research into erythropoietin (EPO), a naturally occurring hormone that was found to have neuroprotective properties in the brain, independent of its role in red blood cell production. Cuban researchers developed a modified form of EPO, known as NeuroEPO, that retains neuroprotective activity while avoiding the hematological effects of standard EPO.
NeuralCIM® (NeuroEPO-plus) represents a further development of this work, formulated for intranasal administration, a route that allows the medication to reach the central nervous system through the olfactory and trigeminal nerve pathways while minimizing systemic exposure.
Proposed Mechanism of Action
Neuroprotection
Supports neuronal survival by activating protective cellular pathways in the brain.
Anti-inflammatory
Reduces neuroinflammation, a key contributor to neurodegenerative processes.
Antioxidant Effect
Helps reduce oxidative stress that can damage neurons over time.
Synaptic Support
May support synaptic function and neural plasticity relevant to cognition.
Clinical Research
Clinical studies on NeuroEPO and related formulations have been conducted by Cuban research institutions, including randomized controlled trials in patients with mild-to-moderate Alzheimer's disease. Published research has reported on cognitive, functional, and neuropsychiatric outcomes over treatment periods of several months.
Research Highlights
- • Intranasal NeuroEPO has been studied in mild-to-moderate Alzheimer's disease.
- • Trials have evaluated cognitive outcomes using standardized neuropsychological assessments.
- • Research has also explored applications in other neurodegenerative conditions.
- • Studies have reported on tolerability and safety over repeated administration cycles.
Research Status Notice
The information on this page summarizes publicly available research on NeuroEPO and related formulations. It is provided for educational purposes and does not constitute medical advice. Some findings are based on studies with limited sample sizes and may require further confirmation through larger trials. Treatment decisions at CIREN are made by qualified clinicians on an individual basis.
